When we received our first Version 6 we were blown away! Manufactured sometime between 1981-82, this version is also referred to as “Circuit 3034”. More wild and raw-sounding than modern NYC muffs, we knew there was something special about this particular model and now its circuit has been faithfully recreated to add to the Big Knob line of classic muffs.

This version was the first muff to break away from the traditional four-transistor circuit design, using instead two opamps (a LM741 and JRC4558) that yielded a crunchier hi-gain twist to the classic fuzz.

The Dreamer was once widely believed to be the “Siamese Dream” tone. While that assertion has since been disproved (Corgan actually performed on a stock 1977 opamp version – see our I.C.B.M.) it remains one of the most popular muff mods ever. By grounding emitters of the two gain stage transistors, the level of fuzz and sustain is increased substantially and this remains hugely popular with grunge, alt blues and garage-rock guitarists alike.
