KOT, POT, DOT. These acronyms in the context of our pedal culture have become ubiquitous. But let’s get real for a second: what we actually GOT here (ahem) is a modification on a stock Marshall BluesBreaker overdrive (from the early 90s no less!), a circuit that has gradually been adopted as this season’s holy-grail-of-tone. So much so, in fact, that spiraling prices for “originals” and rumours of multiple-year new order waitlists are the norm.

But if you, like many, grow weary of this game – of endlessly chasing what others consider to be the ultimate pedal tone, watching countless video shoot-outs and pointless A/B testing of clones and contenders versus the ‘real thing’ – where it’s never about simply being close, but being 100% indistinguishable, which btw is a very tall order considering most vintage pedals vary in sound themselves. At the end of the day, you just want a quality pedal that sounds great and can be depended upon to deliver the goods on stage and in the studio, and those goods will always center around the sound. You want the tone, and no games! And at a reasonable price! Oh, and availability is nice as well.

Not to sound cryptic, but what GOT is is a fully cloned POT (which equals half a KOT) but we’ve added an added switch that emulates a KOT with both its overdrives on and an internal trimpot where you can control the amount of gain of that first-stage. So between the switch being on and off (essentially one overdrive or two) and combining this with your drive and tone control settings, including two internal trim pots for Presence and 2nd Gain, you can key in quite a wide range of tonal colors all based on this holier-than-grail circuit. Or, to get even closer to real KOT-ness, consider getting two GOTs. Get it? By mixing and matching the switch settings on your dual GOT setup you can then get 2, 3, or even 4 emulated overdrives in series. You have everything to gain, because your gain choices are endless! Yes, we said that.

This now infamous circuit was once considered an obscure but affordable overdrive, basically another drop in a vast sea of TS clones, after it was first released in 2004. But then in March of 2023 something amazing happened.

Our friend Josh Scott over at JHS pedals did a video (see below) that raised the lowly BM to cult status seemingly overnight. In the video, Josh and his band demonstrated just how closely it could mimic other well-respected overdrives – these included the Klon Centaur, a Fulltone Fulldrive 2, a Hermida Zendrive, JHS’s own Morning Glory (a BluesBreaker clone), as well as a Nobles ODR-1. The results were remarkable and the video ended up being one of Josh’s most viewed ever. What he proved (and he later made another video explaining more directly what his point was) was that with a good basic overdrive that happens to include more than one tone control option – in BM’s case, a “low” and “high” knob – you can pretty much dial in something that’s nearly indistinguishable from other highly-sought-after (and expensive!) pedals. Something us builders and other pedal aficionados have known for years.

Due to the resulting popular demand we quickly geared up to offer these affordable alternatives to our regular Big Knob customers. This was when the pricing jumped overnight to levels exceeding $400 or more in the weeks following. Since then, things have appeared to have stabilized at around the $200 range, so we will continue offering ours as an affordable option.

“When Beck (Jeff) would go from his rhythm sound to his fuzz it sounded like a transistor radio that was pissed off, whereas Page, when he hits his, it sounds like it’s the end of the world and you don’t mind.”
-Greg Koch describing Yardbirds-era live recordings and the difference between the TB fuzz sounds used by both guitarists.

This is a copy of what was originally intended to be a one-off prototype we custom built for Greg Koch. Our goal was to capture that same amazing fuzz tone Jimmy Page was getting through his MKII during the early Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin, specifically on the album “Yardbirds Live at the Anderson Theater 1968” and we believe this particular pedal comes very, very close. We use three 1960-era NOS Russian military-spec germanium transistors to get a truly wild and vintage sound. Only a few of these are being made available here to the general public and this is the only place to get them!
Please note: This pedal is powered by its internal 9volt battery ONLY! To stay 100% true to its original “positive ground” PNP germanium transistor circuit, we have opted to not add the extraneous integrated chip circuitry “charge pump” that would isolate this from damaging your other pedals and power supply in your signal chain. With that being said, the very low current draw from this circuit means a typical 9v battery can last many months, even up to a year, of normal use.

Our faithful re-creation of the late ’80s classic UK distortion that was originally manufactured for only four years but currently commands prices upwards of $600. Originally designed to replicate the smooth, rich character of a Marshall amplifier, these early version pedals were found to deliver a unique sound all their own that is still sought after by many.

“If you want to be able to dial in that special Marshall amp sound without actually purchasing a Marshall amp, check out The Guv’nor overdrive pedal. This pedal was created in the late 80s to replicate the drive tones of the Marshall Plexi and JCM800 amps. The Guv’nor allows you to control the gain, level, EQ, and sports a loop output for use of other pedals. Famed guitarist Gary Moore used this pedal on his album “Still Got the Blues,” speaking to the pedal’s ability to build up anything from bluesy tones to stand-out leading tones.”

NOTE: To accommodate the smaller MXR-sized footprint we relocated the original pedal’s “Middle” tone control to an internal trim pot on the circuit itself.

The Wah Fix offers unprecedented control to a problem faced by many guitarists using their wah pedals primarily for treble-boost or notch filtering, namely, how best to lock-in that proverbial sweet spot? For many it’s a matter of taping coins or adjusting gear teeth to restrict the travel in their wah’s plunger, but more often than not the methods remain mostly ad hoc, proving less than effective in live performance situations.

Based on the classic British-produced wah pedal from the 70s, Wah Fix addresses this by incorporating all the essential components of the perfect vintage wah pedal but without that one imprecise variable of its foot plunger, now making it easier than ever to dial in perfectly any tonal wah shape you wish beforehand.

Long delays appear lush and cavernous with each ghostly repeat de-generating in a natural manner. Shorter delays provide a bright slapback tone, perfect for reggae or rockabilly. Reminiscent of the vintage tape-based echo units used on classic recordings, you’ll find that Echo Flex makes modern factory-produced digital pedals sound sterile and boring by comparison.
